Creating Connections with Food
Food connects everything.
It connects us to the world through culture,
science and our own bodies.
Exploring these connections helps us understand each other, ourselves and the world around us.

SAMPLE PROGRAMS
Cooking Culture
Together we explore the lives of people who live on different continents through food, music, traditions and customs. We discover the history of the dish of the week along with the rituals associated with it while listening to the traditional music of the culture. Each class incorporates the five senses as we prepare our space, gather our ingredients, follow a recipe and, finally, taste our creations. |
Food Fuel
Nutrition made fun. Learning the connection between what we eat and how we feel empowers children to make healthy choices on their own. Each week will focus on a system of the body and how what we eat affects how it functions. Younger children will tantalize their senses with flavors and textures while exploring their general “mood”. Older children will learn the role of micronutrients and how they can use this information to impact cognitive and physical performance. In the first class, each child will identify a something specific they want to experience through the foods they eat and will keep track of what they learn. For example, more energy, clearer skin, a strong heart, how to make fun treats or learn to like broccoli. All students will complete their own recipe journal to take home at the last class. |
Earth Eating
Experiencing the concept of seasonal eating helps children connect with nature and themselves. We will learn about the weather and temperature patterns and how they impact the growing seasons for various foods. On the first week of class we will plant an edible and continue to nurture it throughout the program. Each week we will prepare a dish based on a new seasonal food and the nutritional value that food offers us. We will learn traditional cooking methods and how to use various herbs and spices to adjust food to meet our individual palettes. All students will complete their own recipe journal to take home at the last class. |
